Smart Vehicles

Intelligent vehicles powered by Voyager Edge applications will give you the ability to manage your entire digital lifestyle. Imagine your vehicle communicating directly with central control system for your home applications (lights, security system, air & heat, sprinklers, alarms, cameras) using GPS-like location awareness to turn on lights, change climate settings and turn on the television as you approach your home. These types of applications are the essence of Mobile 2.0.

Ubiquity remains a major hurdle for most Mobile 2.0 applications and devices. Voyager Edge applications stand alone in this regard since they are not dependent on client-server connectivity. Using Voyager Edge, you can build applications that will continue process on client devices and within ad-hoc communities in the absence of server connectivity. This type of persistence ensures also that once the connectivity is re-established, there will be no need to restart processing and no danger of overloading the server with a bottleneck of information.

There are smart vehicles on the market today, but Voyager Edge will expand their capabilities, integrating them into your personal network, location specific network and into a global network with possibilities that make our lives easier, more efficient and safer. Mobile agents also bring the vision of unmanned or self-driving vehicles one step closer to reality.

Security
If your car is stolen, GPS can currently track its movement and help authorities locate it. Voyager Edge provides the capability to develop applications that allow you to use your smart phone to activate concealed cameras in your vehicle that will send photos of the assailant to your email. In the future, these photos can be transmitted directly to smart devices in the crime detection network. Using intra-car communication, your vehicle can transmit a silent alarm that communicates in to every smart vehicle that comes within range, helping police to track your vehicle in real-time.

Many devices will be activated using voice or fingerprint encryption. Your vehicle will set the preferences controls based on profiles that match the driver's voice or fingerprints. The vehicle's internal system will automatically set temperature, music, seats, sync with you preferred calendar, display driving directions to your first destination - all this and more from fingerprint or voice recognition.

Networked highways
Vehicle-to-vehicle communication applications open a plethora of possibilities. While moving a family from one region of the country to another using multiple smart vehicles, the vehicles routes, motion and equipment condition will be monitored and synchronized. Should one vehicle stop, the others would be systematically notified and given precise location information, or should one vehicle experience equipment issues, the others would be notified with details of the problem.

Traffic flow can be monitored easily and traffic updates can be sent via intra-car communication to notify drivers of accidents or other delays in time to take an alternate route. This capability would be ideal in evacuation scenarios, where cars can be redirected in real-time to prevent bottlenecks.

Concierge
Services, product marketing, and social networking will be driven by location. As you drive from one geographic location to another, GPS or some other geographic positioning technology will trigger location specific services (restaurants, movies, area events). The profile that is stored on your mobile device, which changes as your preferences change, will "learn" from your "preference history" and allow or block information from being presented to you based on this knowledge.

Repair diagnosis and preventative maintenance
It is possible that your vehicle can currently track equipment wear, perform engine diagnostics, recommend service and possibly transmit that information to your dealership. In the future, for example, as your tires wear and replacement nears your smart-vehicle will send information to your handheld device, which will request and receive information about tire suppliers, their location, store hours, prices, sales, and customer satisfaction.
